  Benefits of Biotin

Therapeutic Benefits of biotin
Diabetes – Biotin helps to maintain a healthy nervous system, it may reduce the effects of peripheral neuropathy (numbness & loss of sensation). May help with the breakdown of carbohydrates, and work with insulin to reduce blood sugar levels.

Weight Loss – Biotin is essential for the conversion of carbohydrates, fats and proteins into energy and may assist in “burning fat”.

Healthy Hair - Regular intake of Biotin can help promote healthy, glossy hair. In addition, whilst evidence is only anecdotal, it has been noted that people who taking a regular dose of biotin maintain their hair colour for longer.

Reasons for biotin deficiency
Combines with the protein “Avidin”, found in egg white, which inhibits its absorption. People eating large quantities of egg white would benefit from a Biotin supplement.

Magnesium and Manganese aid the uptake of biotin. Diets low in both of these minerals will inhibit the body’s ability to obtain sufficient biotin from dietary sources.

Intestinal / Kidney Problems – People with the inability to absorb sufficient levels of biotin, or with kidney problems.

Regular consumption of alcohol.

Antibiotics, and sulphonamide anti bacterial drugs may affect the body’s use and demand for biotin.

Symptoms of biotin deficiency
Can include dermatitis, nausea, muscle pain and wasting, increased cholesterol, depression, brittle hair, appetite loss, tiredness.
